Active 20 - "Snap to Track" routing
On an Active 20, with a Wi-Fi connection, you now have the ability on an Active 20 to create a "snap-to-track" route.
Currently this functionality is in "beta" testing mode - but as soon as it is fully tested and stable, it will be formally released.
To be able to test this functionality you will need Software Version 3.11.844 or later on your Active 20 (this was released on 21st Feb 2018), and can be loaded either by Wi-Fi, or via SatSYNC.
This function is available when your Active 20 has a Wi-Fi connection, either to a nearby static network, or (more flexibily) to your Smartphone hotspot. Please make sure that your settings are correct before attempting to create a routeFirst you need to make sure your Active 20 is :1) connected to Wi-Fi, and2) connected to an Xpedition2 account. You can create a new account at our beta Xpedition2 site, which can be found at https://beta.xpedition2.comOnce you have created a new Xpedition2 account, or if you already have an account, please go to the Active 20 Settings menu and select Option 6 "Wi-Fi Settings" and make sure Default Wi-Fi is turned on and Xpedition 2 Connectivity (BETA) is set to On (BETA), as shown in the image left.

On the Active 20 / Settngs / Enter User name - you can now enter your user Xpedition 2 user name and password. Please see the image left.

YOU CAN NOW START CREATING YOUR ROUTETo start go to Main Menu and select Routes Menu. Now scroll down to where you want the route saved, i.e Internal Storage or SD card and select Create New Route. Here you can select the activity of the route you are wanting to create, once you have selected a route option press "Select" (as shown in the image left). This will bring up a map, which will now give you the option to start creating your route.

Once you have located your start point please push the bottom left hand button, or screen, which is shown as a circle with a plus symbol (as shown in the image left). You can now either pan to your end point of your walk and press the same button, or touchscreen again to pin the end point (as shown in the image below).
When a 2nd Routepoint is placed, the system calls back to the powerful OSRM routing engine on our servers and calculates the shortest route between the two points along the paths that are allowed by the type of route you have selected.FOOT : will use footpaths, bridleways and roads - but not motorways !BIKE : will use bridleways, bikeapths, byway and roads, but not footpaths or motorwys.CAR : will use roads, vehicular access byways and motorways, but not footpaths or bike paths.
We however would recommend you gradually plot route points to make up your complete route. You will notice an orange dotted line will appear, this is just a way of letting you know that the route is being generated for you. If for any reason the Active 20 Wi-Fi link to the server is down, the system will just plot a straight line between your two points.Once you have completed plotting your route, select Done in the bottom right hand corner and select Yes to save changes, the route will now be saved in a folder called Routes & Tracks. |
